Lusty, -ie, a. (adv.) Also: -ye, -i, -é, luistie. Comp. lustiar. Superl. lustyest, -iest, -iast, -east. [ME. lusti (c 1225), lusty, lustie, f. Lust n.]In many of the occurrences there is admixture of, or ambiguity between, two or more of the senses. Most senses are very common in verse, whereas senses 1–3 are appar. uncommon in prose.
1. Cheerful, light-hearted, gay, merry, joyful. Chiefly of persons and their attributes. c1460 Dietary 63.
