Possibil(l, -ible, -abill, adj.1 (adv.) Also: pos- and -ibille, -ibyl, -ybyl, -ibell; -abyll, -abell, -able; posscopyl. [ME and e.m.E. possibel (Rolle), -ible, -yble, F. possible (OF also posible, 13th c. in Godef. Compl.), L. possibilis that can or may be done, f. posse to be able.] Possible; that may be, that is capable of being, being done or happening.
A. adj.
1. predic. (To be) possible (to, also in, the agent).Also impers. const. noun clause compl. or (active or passive) infin. In later use also in (parenthetical) conditional clauses.(1) 1456 Hay II 91/12.
