We aught him the siller, and will pay him wi' our convenience.

We aucht him fower poun a year syne.

[O.Sc. aucht, from O.E. ahte, pa.t. (shortened) of āgan, to own. Used as a pres. (like St.Eng. ought in a different sense). O.Sc. pr.p. of aucht — viz. auchtand — is used also, as in 2 above, as a passive participle. See Awn(d), 2.]
