BACK-CALVER, n. (See quot.) The usage is Gen.Sc. Hence ppl.adj. back-calving[′bɑk-′kɑ:vər]Slg. 1912 (per Abd.13):
Back-calver — A cow that calves in the back end of the year.

20 Non-attested Back-calving Heifers.

In only a very few instances are they (old cows) sold as "back-calvers", as is commonly the case in Ayrshire.
