BEIRFUTT, adj. Barefooted. [′bɪər- or ′bi:r′fʌt Liddesdale, Rxb.]Rxb. 1702 quoted by J. J. Vernon in Scotsman (15 Nov. 1902):
The next Sabbath to stand at the kirk door with ane pair of scheittis about him, beirfutt and beir-leggit.

[Beir is found in O.Sc. in these compounds but bair is the more common spelling.]
