BONGALL, n. Variant of Eng. bengal, a kind of silk stuff imported from Bangala (Eng. Bengal) in India, a local imitation of this. The Sc. form is somewhat closer to the Indian pronunciation.Sc. 1727 Records Conv. Burghs (1885) 439:
Neck cloaths, bongalls made of cotton and linnen.
Fif. 1723 W. Macfarlane Geog. Coll. (S.H.S.) I. 291:
In the burgh, are a great many Weavers, constantly imployed in working damask, and Diaper, tyckings, and bongall.
