†BUMWHUSH, n. In phr. to go to the bumwhush, to go to perdition; to sink into obscurity.Gall. 1824 MacTaggart Gallov. Encycl. 102:
When anything has made a noise for some time, and is then quashed, it is said to have gone to the bumwhush. This is too often the way with people of great popularity; they have their day, then go all to the bumwhush.
