CLANTER, n. and v. Also found in n.Eng. dial. (see E.D.D. s.v. clunter). [′klɑntər]

1. n. “A jarring noise, such as proceeds from clogs walked about with in a house” (Gall. 1824 MacTaggart Gallov. Encycl. 135).

2. v. To make a clattering noise.Dmf. 1938 D. M. Paulin in Chambers's Jnl. (Nov.) 840:
A riderless horse comes clanterin' in.
