CREAVE, v. An 18th cent. Sc. form of Eng. crave, to petition, beg; to ask for as a legal right. [krev]Sc. 1710 Nairne Peerage Evidence (1873) 44:
Of what he can ask or creave of us by right.
Ags. 1717 Dundee Kirk Session Records (16 Dec.):
He humbly creaved that the session wuld be pleased to allow him to sit forenoon and afternoon in regaird of the distance of place and that he could not win from his bussiness.
Ags. 1783 Will (per Fif.1):
Ask claim or creave.

[This form appears in O.Sc. 1673, but the pa.p. creiffit appears earlier (1568) and the pr.p. creuand in 1600 (D.O.S.T. s.v. crave).]
