Very large numbers of the Copepoda, principally Temora longicornis, the 'Croyerg', or, for shortness, "Croy" of the fishers.
Arg. 1939 J. Bramwell Highland View 192:
They [basking sharks] cruise along slowly feeding on the little red and black insects [crustaceans (Arg.1)] locally called “croy,” which also provide food for the herring.
