CUMMAL, KUMMEL, KUML, KUMMLE, n. A small piece of rising ground; a mound (Sh. 1914 Angus Gl., kummel, Ork. 1845 Stat. Acc.2 XV. 95, 1866 Edm. Gl., cummal); “a mound or prehistoric site showing evidence of some old burial or memorial structure” (Ork. 1929 Marw., kummle); a tumulus (Sh. 1914 Angus Gl.). Common in place-names (Jak.).
