EFFECKWAL, adj. Also effec'wal (Bch. 1929 P. Giles in Abd. Univ. Review (March) 127), effectwal. Sc. forms of Eng. effectual (Sh.10, Ags.19 1950). Gen. in phr. Effeckwal Callin', Effectual Calling, the name given to the answer to Question 31 in the Shorter Catechism, from its opening phrase “Effectual calling is the work of God's spirit.”Ayr. 1786 Burns Inventory ll. 44–45:
He'll screed you aff “Effectual Calling” As fast as onie in the dwalling.Sc. 1816 O. Mortality xxxvi i.:
