FLEET, n.2 Also flit. A piece of the belly of a fish, esp. mackerel, cut into the shape of a fish for use as bait (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), flit; Ork. 1929 Marw.). [fli:t]
[Prob. an extended use of Fleet, n.1 = what floats. Jak. suggests Norw. dial. fletta, a tear, a shred, but the vowel does not suit.]
