GEEBALD, n. Also jeebauld. A kind of sickle, “an instrument made of a reaper's hook attached to a long staff, and fashioned for the purpose of cutting nettles and thistles” (Rxb. 1923 Watson W.-B., geebald, 1942 Zai; Bwk. 1942 Wettstein). Also in Nhb. dial. [′dʒi:bəld]Rxb. 1918 Kelso Chron. (11 Jan.) 3:
Tak' that jeebauld wi' ye an' cut the thrissels on the Haugh.

[Prob. for G-bill, a G-shaped hedgebill, with excrescent d as in the Bwk. form hedgbald for hedgebill.]
