GIRDERING, n. One of the suckers which spring from the root of the ash, used for hoops, etc.Slk. 1829 Hogg Shepherd's Cal. I. 231:
He had won ten pleas afore the courts o' Dumfries, a' rising out o' ane anither, like ash girderings out o' ae root.
