HOOLOCH, n. A deep, roaring, rumbling noise, e.g. a fall of heavy stones, as on a hillside, an avalanche (Gall. 1824 MacTaggart Gallov. Encycl. 275), the roaring of a waterfall (Per. 1957). Cf. hurloch s.v. Hurl, n.1Gall. 1824 MacTaggart Gallov. Encycl. 192:
