I. n. The noise made by a small waterfall when falling on loose stones or gravel (Gall. 1824 MacTaggart Gallov. Encycl. 288).

II. v. To make a purling noise, as of running water.Bnff. 1869 W. Knight Auld Yule 30:
Near by a spout that jurred wi' eident sound.
