POTTLE, n. Also pottal. Reduced form of potful (Kcd., ‡Ags. 1966). Cf. Cairtle, a cartful, Hantle, a small quantity, a handful, etc.

They have also peculiar contractions, viz. cartful, cartill; potful, pottle; etc. Ags. 1894 J. B. Salmond My Man Sandy (1899) vii.:
It was . . . like's somebody had skelt a pottal o' green-kail or something on the sheet whaur the picture was.
