RANTOCK, n. The goosander, Mergus merganser (Ork. 1877 Sc. Naturalist (Jan.) 9).
[Orig. obscure. The word may possibly be a misprint for rautock, dim. form from Norw. dial. rauta, to roar, low like a cow (cf. Rowt, v.). For sim. formation cf. Rittock.]
