BENVIE PEAR, n.comb. A variety of dessert pear, first cultivated at Benvie near Dundee in the 18th c. (Ags. 1845 Stat. Acc.2 XI. 584).Ags. 1828 Gardener's Mag. IV. 11:
The Benvie pear is extensively cultivated. The original tree is still standing in an orchard bearing the name of Benvie, in the Carse of Gowrie.
