¶CAUMSHELL, n. The clamshell or scallop, Pecten (Gall. 1824 MacTaggart Gallov. Encycl. 129). [If not a corruption of clam, the first element might poss. be associated with Calm, n., but the authenticity of the word is doubtful. Connection with Kamshell is most improbable.]
