It was decided that the Rector's Classes, and members of the Eleven and Fifteen not included in these Classes, should choose some of their own number as School leaders and representatives. It was suggested by the boys that I should propose twelve names. Out of those names these young electors chose eight. We borrowed a term from ancient Sparta, and called them “Ephors.” Edb. 1974 M. After the War, a subsidiary system of Division Ephors, now called Junior Ephors, was instituted . . . and the Senior Ephors are now appointed from among their number.
