GULE, n. In phr. as yellow as a gule's fit, very yellow (see quot.). The usual expression is as yella as a deuk's fit. Gule might conceivably be a mistake for gull but poss. there is some erroneous extrapolation of the phr. gule-fittit s.v. Guil, n., 4. (2).Sc. 1827 C. I. Johnstone Eliz. de Bruce I. ix.:
The reek makes my bits o' pearlins as yellow as a gule's fit.
