HAMILTON. Zool. After Francis Buchanan, later Hamilton (see Buchanan above). Derivs. Hamiltoni, specif. name of a genus of tortoises, Damonia, from the Orient (1831 J. E. Gray Synopsis Reptilium 21); Hamiltonia, a genus of Indian fishes of the John Dory family (1839 W. Swainson Nat. Hist. Fishes II. 250).
