STAPPY, n. Also steppy. Sc. reduced dim. form of Eng. step- as in step-father, -mother, etc. (Kcd., Fif. 1971).wm.Sc. 1837 Laird of Logan (1854) 545:
Souple-shanks, as they ca' him, is nae father o' mine, he's only my stappy; my mither's gudeman like; and, except being a M'Ouat, he's no a drap o' blood related to me.
