1. As in Eng., to come upon unawares. Ppl.adj. surprizing, coming unexpectedly, unlooked for. Obs. in Eng.Sc. 1711 Burgh Rec. Gsw. (1908) 457:
There fell out an surprizing fire in his barn and barn yeard in Gorballs.
