Panetar(e, Paniter, Panneter, n. Also: panetier, panitar, panniter, panyter; penneter, -yter, penytre. [ME. (1297–c 1460) paneter, -iter, -yter, OF. panetier, penetier (mod. F. panetier), AF. paneter, med. L. panetarius, -erius. Cf. also Panter.] The officer of a household who was in charge of the pantry (cf.
