(Warnising,) Warnysing, (vbl.) n. Also: warnessing, varnysing, -asyng, warnisoun(e, warnisicioun, warnysone, varnysoun, vernysoun, (warcessioun). [ME warnisoun (Manning), warnysnge (c1340), warnyschynge (Wyclif), OF warnison, var. of garnison, Garnisoun n.] a. The provision of men and stores required for a garrison; the garrison itself. The quot. Wall. (1570) may rather belong in Wariso(u)n(e n. b. Provision, supply (of knowledge, etc.); the knowledge itself.a. 1375 Barb. x 325 (C).
