Petuo(u)sly, -lye, adv. Also: -uisly, -uislé, -uusly, -ew(o)uslie. [Late ME. petwysly (c 1420). Cf. Petously, Pitwisly.] So as to call for, excite or deserve pity; pitiably; lamentably, grievously. — 1375 Barb. iii. 562 (E).
