Race, Ras(e, v. Also: rasse, rais, rays, raice; Rasche. P.t. raisit, etc.; and race. [ME and e.m.E. race (c1350), raase (1422), ras(s, rase, aphetic form of Arace: cf. OF racher, -ier for arrachier.] tr. To pull, pluck or tear (a person or thing) (doun, of, out (of)) from (fra, of) a person or place; to pull up by the roots. Also fig.(1) 1375 Barb. iii 134.
