1. n. = Alexander, Burd Alisander, a kind of striped silk, so named from Alexandria, in Egypt, where it was manufactured.Edb. 1691 Inventory in Proc. Soc. Antiq. Scot. LIII. (1919) 63:
Item fourtie eight eln of Alasant from the weaver not yet dyed.

2. adj. Made of alasant.Ags. 1740 Private Inventory (per Fif.1):
A copper-coloured Alasant Bed.
Ib.:
An Alasant Stuff Bed, dark-coloured lined with yellow.
