BLUDKERCAKE, BLUDE-, BLOOD-, n. “A cake mixed with hog's blood, eaten on Easter Sunday, called also a redemption or ransom cake” (Sc. 1911 S.D.D., bludker cake).s.Sc. 1825 Jam.2, s.v. carecake:
In the South of Sc. the Carecake, or Kercaik, is made of blood and oatmeal, and prepared in a frying-pan. Hence called a Blude-kercake.Slk. 1818 Hogg Brownie of Bodsbeck I. 276–277:
