GARGLE, n. A disease of cattle, affecting the head and throat, the murrain (see Dmf. quot. s.v. Clyre). Obs. in Eng. except in n. dial.Sc. 1803 Trans. Highl. Soc. II. 217:
Gargle. . . . This disorder . . . is frequently occasioned by feeding cattle with rotten grass or hay, or by pasturing them on wet or flooded lands.
