GURPUG, n. Also gorpog. [′gʊrpɔg]
1. A derisive term applied to a small, insignificant person (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928)).
2. A small horse, a pony (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl., gur-, 1908 Jak. (1928), gorpog); used mockingly or jokingly (Jak.).
[Phs. for gor- (Norw. gor, cud, half-digested food) + poke, bag, sack. For similar compounds, cf. Norw. dial. gorbelg, gorpose, gorsekk, a small boy, sc. one who eats much and does little.]You may wish to vary the format shown below depending on the citation style used.
