HASSON, HASSING, n. Sc. mining term: a vertical gutter or drainpipe between water rings in a shaft (Sc. 1886 J. Barrowman Mining Terms 35). Now obs. or obsol. (Edb.6 1944). Cf. gatten s.v. Gote v.1 (2) (b). Hence hasson-deal, a wooden cover for a hasson (Sc. 1886 J. Barrowman Mining Terms 35).
