LENGET, adj. Also lendet (Jak.), -it; lanyied, landit (Ork.). Of a cow or horse: having a stripe across the back, with black and white stripes or markings over the back (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl., lendit, 1908 Jak. (1928); Ork. 1929 Marw.). [′lɛŋgət]
[Ppl.adj. from O.N. (bak-)lengja, a stripe along the back of cattle; cf. Lengie. The d forms are corruptions, phs. due to the influence of O.N. lend, the loins.]
