†MAR'S YEAR, n.comb. Also Marr's Year. A name given to the year 1715 when the First Jacobite Rising took place, the rebel army being under the leadership of the Earl of Mar. Hist.Rnf. 1769 Weekly Mag. (25 May) 241:
I ha'e seen nae sic hurly burly sin Marr's year.Ayr. 1786 Burns Halloween xxvii.:
Auld uncle John, wha wedlock's joys, Sin Mar's-year did desire.Slk. 1819 Hogg Storms (1874) 140:
