MITLE, v. To whittle or shred away, as if with the teeth of a small animal (Dmf. 1825 Jam.). Also fig.Gall. 1824 MacTaggart Gallov. Encycl. 348:
When siller is chynged it is said to be soon mote or mitle away.

[Orig. doubtful. Phs. an altered form of Moutle, the i suggesting even smaller fragmentation and maybe also association with Mite and Mittle. Cf. also Mattle, v.1]
