EVANS. Zool. After William Evans (1852–1923), of Edinburgh, actuary and naturalist, in derivs. evansi, specif. name of a springtail, Onychiurus (1937 Bagnall in Sc. Naturalist 145) and Evansia, a genus of spider (1900 Cambridge in Proc. Dorset Club XXI. 38), and of crustacea (1906 Scott in Ann. & Mag. Nat. Hist. (7) XVII. 460), later called Evansula.
