We cou'd na' get a chiel to shaw us the gate, alpuist we had kriesh'd his liv wi a shillin.
Ib. 11:
We had been at nae great tinsel apiest we had been quit o' her.

A bodie wou'd nae car'd to meddle wi' her, apiece they had been hir'd to do't.

[Prob. from all beis = Eng. all be, although; beis is found in O.Sc. as 3rd sing. of pres. subjunctive, Douglas Aen. xii. iv. 70: Bot gif so beis. (See other instances in N.E.D.) The -t forms may show the t of it, or the parasitic t as in alangst. The ui spellings may be due to some analogy based on a false etymology.]
