Hy, n. Also: hye. [ME. high, hie, hy(e (14th c.), hij, hiȝ, early hih (c 1200), f. Hy,v. Only in verse. In Eng. obsol. before 1500.] Haste, speed. a. In (rarely, into) hy, in haste, hastily, speedily.Very common in early poetry, sometimes initially or within the line, but much more frequently used as a rhyme-tag, e.g. especially by Douglas.(1) 1375 Barb. ii. 565.
