Hale, Hail(l, Heal(l, a. and n.3 Also: hal, hall(e, haale, haile, haille, hayl(l, hayle, hael(l, heal(e, hel(e, hell, heill. [Northern ME. hal(e, midl. and southern hool, hol, OE. hál.e.m.E. and ME. also had hayl, hail, heil, hæil (c 1205), chiefly in sense 1, from ON. heill.]
