Remain, -man(e, v. Also: ra-, ray- and -maine, -mayn(e, -maynne, -mean(e, -men(e, -menn-, -myne. P.t. also remanyit, -mant, ramand. [ME and e.m.E. remayne(n (1398), -mane (1482), -mene (1538), AF remeyn-, remayn-, etc., stressed stem of OF remanoir (c1050 in Larousse), L. remanēre, f. manēre to stay.]Appar. in most senses current in Scots before it was in English.
