Abufe, Above, adv. and prep. Also: (a) abeof(e, abeouf(e, abeuf(f, abuf, abuff(e, abwff(e, abwfe, abouf, abowff; (b) abuif(e, abuiff, abuyf, abwif(e, aboif(fe, abof; (c) abeove, abeowe, abow(e, above, abuve. [ME. above, abuve, reduced from aboven Abovin by loss of final n (already appearing in ONhb. bufa). The pronunc. is most clearly represented by the spelling abuve, but the forms with f are the more frequent. It is difficult or impossible, except in rhymes and in printed texts, to distinguish aboue from abone Abone, as u and n are made alike in the manuscripts.]
