Rejois, -jos(e, v. Also: -joise, -joys(e, -joyis, -es, -joice, -joyc(e, -goys; rajois, -jos; rejoce, -joes; reos; (rojos). [ME and e.m.E. reioische(n (c1350), -ioyse(n (c1366), -ioyce and -joyss- (Lydgate), also (once) reioshen (Manning), OF rejoiss-, resjoiss-, lengthened stem of rejoir (later rejouir). Cf. Jois v.]The evidence of rhymes (see below) suggests that -oi- forms are freq. merely spelling variants of -o- forms, and hence that rejos(e was the more common form. See also the note to Chose n.
