I. 1. A set, or group, of twenty; a score (of people, things, animals, quantities, etc.).Sometimes represented by superscript xx, as in e.g. viijxx.Chiefly uninfl. pl., but also, rarely, infl. pl. and sing.Generally numbering 20 of any item, but there were exceptions: grain, Roxburghshire and Selkirkshire, 21 bolls … and sheep, Dunbartonshire, 21 in number (R.E.
