Quhip, Quheip, v. Also: quhyp, whip; quhup; wheip, whep. Also north-east variant: phip. [ME and e.m.E. hwippen (a1300), whip (Chaucer), whype (Cath. Angl.), var., with wh for w (perh. echoic) of ME wip, Wip v.: cf. also Quhip n.]
1. tr. To cut off (of) (a person's hand) with a sudden or rapid stroke of a weapon.1513 Doug. x vii 128.
